High school graduations are right around the corner. For seniors across the land, commencement ends a chapter of their lives that for most of them followed a very similar path. But soon their journeys in life will begin to diverge.

Of the 3.3 million students who are graduating this spring from America’s public and private high schools, about two-thirds will go on to universities and colleges. Of the other third, the vast majority will join the workforce.
